Landscape Reminders for Autumn in Oklahoma

As the leaves fall, and the smells of holiday cooking and shopping begin to fill calendars and planners, there are a few things "landscape" that you should attend to before we move out of this beautiful fall weather into that season where we often remain shut in for days at a time.
#1  Get those dead plants removed now....and take a good look at how it affects your home's appearance.  Fall is quite often a much better time to plants many trees and shrubs than is spring.
#2 Don't forget that Thanksgiving weekend is not only about Black Friday, but also the best time in Oklahoma to plant spring flowering bulbs.  Give careful consideration to where you plant them....more on that in my next blog.
#3 After we have had a good "hard" frost, say below 28 deg. Fahrenheit, it's time to make sure that we've protected our perennials and other shrubs with a good covering of mulch.  If you like to use leaves, just be careful that they are thoroughly shredded so as not to invite wet and moldy conditions.  I prefer a high quality of premium cedar mulch....and of course, you should call LandFX to deliver, and if you'd rather not, we can apply that for you.
#4  If you haven't fed your plants for winter yet, do that now.  Fertilome Tree and Shrub Food is my personal favorite.....easy to apply and can by used on everything.  Go easy on Azaleas, Spruces, and other acidic prefering plants.  Just follow the directions, as always.
#5 Be sure that you water your plants prior to deep cold snaps....dry cold is a killer in landscapes in Oklahoma.
That's all for now....I'm heading out to my outdoor fireplace, coffee in hand....lured by the heady fragrance of pinion.  Is there honestly anything that smells better? Have a great week, friends!
